Content: Endplate connection is commonly used in steel structures. Replacing the conventional carbon steel endplate by stainless steel endplate can greatly increase the deformation capacity of the connection, meaning the connection can absorb much greater energy, which is desired for improving structural robustness. This project is intended to provide some preliminary experimental data of the tensile component (T-stub) of this new connection type. The work will include understanding the design of endplate connections using the component based method, testing two T-stubs under tension, one using normal steel and one using stainless steel, and comparing moment-rotation behaviour of endplate connections between using normal steel and stainless steel.
