Movement of stagnant air over a surface typically decreases the pressure that air exerts on the surface it was in contact with, and higher air velocities usually result in more important pressure drops. This pressure drop from rapidly moving air across a surface is generally how a tornado removes the roof from a building. Imagine that I made a miniature model of a town to devastate with a simulated tornado. If each building has a soft wood roof (r = 513 kg/m3) that just sits on top of the building with uniform dimensions (25 mm x 35 mm x 4 mm) with an internal pressure of 101 kPa, what is the maximum pressure (in Pa) over the roof that I require to achieve to simulate the effect of a tornado-induced removal assuming that the roof is not glued down to the walls that support it (that is, only its weight and the air pressure outside the roof hold it down)?
