Question

Using the following information, calculate the number of FTEs necessary to staff your inpatient unit for the next budget year. Note that your institution's hiring policy does not allow for part-time employees. The annual hours for FTE are based on 40 hours per week for 52 weeks. The average daily census for the budget year is planned to be 42 patients. Staff needs are for 21 hours of hands-on care per patient day. Productive time is 65 percent of total paid time. Staff is able to provide hands-on care for only 7 of every 8 hours actually worked.
