Discussion Board Week : Management Responsibility

Well, you have explored so many facets of the event planning business! With business projects or social events they all follow the same rules. You have planned your project, supervised staff, and assigned others to monitor different tasks from start to finish. In the business world, if and when you are given a project from your employer you will go through the same steps that you did on this project. You are/were the senior manager; it is your planning that brought the event to success because this just doesn’t happen by itself. Remember, in the real world you must keep your master plan, list out all the “to do” tasks step by step, so nothing is overlooked or forgotten. Just one little misstep and the entire project can fail.

For your discussion question this week: discuss with your classmates the importance of management at the head of any project. Can a project be successful without anyone in charge?

Focus your discussion on:

What is the role of the manager?

Who do they manage on an event?

Does the manager make all the decisions or is staff included in meetings and brainstorming sessions?

Why does the manager need staff to complete a successful event?

What is the manager’s role with the:

Staff

Vendors

Volunteers

Electrical Technicians with A/V, sound, lighting

Decorating crew

Catering
