Digital Presentation: Data Visualisation
Learning Outcome 1: Analyse and present data graphically and critically evaluate summary statistics using Excel.
Learning Outcome 2: Apply a range of data analysis tools to inform problem solving and support business decision making.
Learning Outcome 3: Present findings, from quantitative research, to a wide range of stakeholders from diverse industries.
Assessment Task:
Produce descriptive statistics, plot at least two appropriate graphs based on your analysis of a data set and present the results of your statistical analysis in a 5 minutes video presentation using 6 - 7 PowerPoint slides.
Context
This assessment requires you to critical evaluate descriptive summary statistics. You need to apply several data visualisation techniques, and use Excel to create plots and graphs that illustrate high-level information and provide insights into data sets. Appropriate visualisation helps data analysts and decision-makers identify patterns or trends not demonstrated in raw data. In this assessment, you will demonstrate your ability to:
• Visualise complex data sets using excel generated plots and graphs.
• Choose the best visualisation for a specific data set.
Task instruction
1. Seletc a data set
Please select your own data set and perform a range of analysis to show patterns and phenomena of interest.
You may wish to use one of the many datasets available at Kaggle
You will need register for a free account using your email address. Once you have signed in, click on ‘Data'
to locate and choose dataset.
You can view descriptions of the data sets and download one of the relevant Excel spreadsheets directly from Kaggle.
2. Use the downloaded data set to execute the following statistical techniques in Excel using the following sequence:
• Produce descriptive statistics from your data set.
• Generate at least two appropriate graphs from your data analysis.
• These graphs need to be included in PowerPoint presentation.
• You need to identify outliers from your graphical analysis, if present.
• Label two graphs appropriately.
3. Present your findings in a 5-minutes recorded PowerPoint presentation using 6 - 7 slides.
4. Please address the following points in your presentation:
• Explain the graphs and demonstrate why you chose to visualise the data set in the way you did.
• Your discussion should be connected to the characteristics of the data set (Approx. 2 minutes)
• Discuss the insights, knowledge, patterns or information that can be obtained directly from your visualisation of the data set (Approx. 2 minutes)
• Reflect on your experience in completing the assessment tasks and discuss the challenges you faced in the implementation (Approx. 1 minute)
5. General assessment instructions
• Your presentation must not exceed 5 minutes.
• You are required to show your face during the presentation for authentication purposes.
• You may use any software/device to record your presentation. However, it is highly recommended that you use Zoom or an equivalent online conferencing software (e.g. MS Teams) to record your presentation.
