1. The "Square Deal" policy helped the public by keeping them safe from the meat market industry and by placing labels on food product with ingredients that are be used to create these food. In order to do that President Roosevelt passed two laws The first law is called The meat inspection Act which was passed in 1902. This law protect the public health by inspecting all meat product that are being sold to the markets and later on being bought by the public. Due to this act being passed meat need to processed according and handled with care. As I read in the Encyclopaedia Britannica written by Kristen L. Rouse said, "Meat Inspection Act of 1906, U.S. legislation, signed by Pres. Theodore Roosevelt on June 30, 1906, that prohibited the sale of adulterated or misbranded livestock and derived products as food and ensured that livestock were slaughtered and processed under sanitary conditions. The law reformed the meatpacking industry, mandating that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) inspect all cattle, swine, sheep, goats, and horses both before and after they were slaughtered and processed for human consumption. The law also applied to imported products, which were treated under similarly rigorous foreign inspection standards. The 1906 legislation amended prior Meat Inspection Acts of 1890 and 1891 and other laws that had provided for USDA inspection of slaughtered animals and meat products but had proven ineffective in regulating many unsafe and unsanitary practices by the meatpacking industry. The law was substantially amended by the Wholesome Meat Act of 1967." This is just one way it helped the public the second law that was passed was the pure food and drug act in 1906. This law was passed so that it can inform the public about what they are actually consuming. By placing labels on all food and drug it allowed the public to be more informed about what material are being used to create their food they are consuming. Keeping the public health safe from unknown ingredients that can harm and maybe even be deadly to a person. Active ingredients needed to be placed on the label of all drug and pure foods.

" Roosevelt moved quickly to protect public health "(Corbett et al.,2017,621) . After reading the novel " The Jungle " Roosevelt quickly act upon the meat companies and made two laws that all meat companies had to follow . Meat inspection act of 1906 and Pure food and Drug Act of 1906, because of theses act we have the food labels until this day . The labels provide the ingredients as well as the calories per servings.
