As a manager at Acme Manufacturing, Pat arranged for Mr. Tim Reynolds to speak to his staff about sales productivity in late August. Tim is a widely respected motivational speaker and former lead sales representative at IBM. Tim's presentation was to be a key element in a sales conference for Acme sales staff.

Pat's goal was that Tim could "fire up" or "motivate" his staff to perform at higher levels.

As it turned out, Tim's presentation fell flat. It was not inspiring. Rather, Tim took time to speak about his new company, and its products, but did little to inspire the staff.

Pat wonders what went wrong. Why did Tim not speak to the issues he wanted him to speak on? Using the basic model of communication, identify and explain three reasons why from a communications perspective that the outcome was not as intended. Please number your three items.
