How did the spanish people and indian people become similar(melting pot)?

Ok for my Spanish 4 project I have to write a paragraph about how the Spanish people and Indian people became more alike, or how they became like the melting pot. I dont need it translated into spanish, actually I dont even need a paragraph, just facts, but specific facts! (Like how did the two's culture begin to be the same or things like that) It would be suuuppperr appreciated!
