Question : A problem at a brewery has been algebraically modeled as follows:

X1 = the number of litres of lager made each day

X2 = the number of litres of ale made each day

maximize. 1.2X1 +. 0.9X2

subject to

production of lager X1 ≥ 2000

production of ale X2 ≥ 3000

total production X1 + X2 ≤ 8000

process 1 4X1 + 2X2 ≤ 22000

process 2 2X1 +. 6X2. ≤ 38000

process 3 3X1 + 8X2 ≤ 50000

proportion X1 -. 0.7X2 ≤ 0

non-negativity X1 , X2 ≥ 0

In both parts (a) and (b) include your name and student number in the model (for LINGO, begin a line or set of comment lines with an exclamation mark). Also, everything in the algebraic model must appear in the computer models. Do this also for all computer models in future assignments.

(a) Solve the model using LINGO. Submit files for both the model and the solution report.

(b) Solve this model using the Excel Solver. Make one Excel worksheet with two tabs, one for the model, and one for the answer report.

(c) Write the solution in words as would be given to the manager of the brewery. If management doesn't have the time to monitor all things at the brewery, on which of the three processes should they concentrate their efforts?
