How much energy is incident from the sun per year (in EJ)? The solar flux at the earth's surface is 1 kW/m2 and one can approximate the earth as a sphere of radius 6400 km. How does this compare with the world total energy produced annually? (use BP or EIA data) . If 70% of the primary energy does no useful work and is wasted how does the energy that does useful work compare with the annual energy incident from the sun?
