Question

Sodium attracts water: Sodium plays a role in maintaining the balance of fluids in the body. When sodium levels are high, it attracts water and causes an increase in blood volume. This increased blood volume puts extra pressure on the blood vessels, leading to higher blood pressure. Sodium affects kidney function: The kidneys help regulate blood pressure by controlling the amount of sodium and water in the body. When sodium levels are high, the kidneys may have difficulty removing excess sodium, leading to increased fluid retention and higher blood pressure. Sodium constricts blood vessels: High sodium intake can cause blood vessels to constrict or narrow. This narrowing increases resistance to blood flow, resulting in higher blood pressure. To summarize, sodium contributes to hypertension by attracting water, affecting kidney function, and constricting blood vessels, all of which can lead to increased blood pressure.
