Essay: From theory to practice, and practice to theory - 2500-3000words, excluding references and appendices

This assessment focuses on the links between theory, research and practice. This assessment is designed for students to: 4 1) Test analytical concepts and research literature by applying them to an example in the 'real world'; and 2) Critically analysing how practical or 'real-world' examples of policy, programmes, interventions (which aim to address issues related to the sociology of criminal justice) can contribute to theory and research.

This assessment involves analysing a policy, programme or intervention that relates to the sociology of criminal justice. Students are encouraged to select an item that has practical relevance. For example, this might include an analysis of a community or government program, a policy statement, etc. You are required to the analysis of the item you have chosen, using research literature, and theories and concepts discussed in class. The essay must reference at least 5 academic sources (e.g. journal articles, academic book chapters, etc.). You are permitted to use course readings if you wish.
