Consider the following case. A biologist, who is working for a Pharmaceutical Company in Minneapolis MN, is sent to the upper Amazon basin to research plant life. She has received permission from the Brazilian government to do so, but she must remain outside of any indigenous region. Inadvertently she harvests some plants in an indigenous zone, and returns to Minnesota, and the firm is pleased. At this point it may be asked who ought to receive the benefits from dramatic new discovery. If Locke is correct, she has a perfect right to the plants, in that they are unused by the local peoples, regardless if she broke the agreement. If the Utilitarian Theory, is correct she has violated the agreement, yet the discovery will the address the T-Cell issues in AIDS research, hence serving the greater good. Or do, the Personality Theory, or the Social Planning Theory offer sensible alternatives? How are we to assess this circumstance?
