Making sure you have a friendly and professional page associated with yourself will give you credit and more of a chance in being employed or opening a new career path. Using correct spelling and grammar, posting family photos, volunteer work, etc. These are all positive impacts that can help in the process of getting hired or promoted.

Some negative affects that social media can have on the advancement in the workplace is having lots of profanity, arguments, etc. on your page. If this is the first thing an employer see's, most the time they will already discredit you. Social media can really show what person you are and the things that can set you off, and if a employer can see that you can't handle conflict on social media well, they most likely won't want you associated with their business.
