Ethical leadership some discussion should be devoted to the conduct of individuals who believe that they are aware of conduct that may be unethical or even illegal. Should they disclose this information if it is illegal to do so.

Consider the case of Edward Snowden. Snowden released confidential government documents to the press about the existence of government surveillance programs that he had learned about while working as a contract employee for the NSA. It has been alleged that his actions violated federal laws. Snowden asserts that he had a moral obligation to disclose what he had discovered. Snowden asserted that the Government surveillance of the electronic communications of U.S. citizens was illegal and an invasion of privacy.
