Small Group Communication Theory Introduction: Small group communication theory attempts to explain and predict group and team phenomena. No single theory can describe all variables but there are several theories that have emerged to explain and predict group behavior. Each of the theories focuses on different aspects of the group process.

Task 1: Using the glossary of the text, write the definition to the following five theoretical perspectives: Social Exchange Theory Systems Theory Symbolic Convergence Theory Structuration Theory Functional Theory (Please use definition on p. 51 for Functional Theory) After each definition, explain the theory in your own words. Notice: It will be difficult to explain the theory if you do not read beyond the definition.

Task 2: After reviewing the "Virtual Communication" section on p. 52, select the one theory that you believe has the highest degree of "explanatory function" and the one that has the highest degree of "predictive function" for your Virtual Work Team. Explain your answer.

Task 3: Review the Pizza Club scenario or the Join The Team scenario. Select the one theory that you believe has the highest degree of "explanatory function" and the one that has the greatest degree of "predictive function" for the scenario you chose. Explain your answer. Deliverables and Format: Your completed document should be approximately 450-700 words.
