Sleep Deprivation Presentation Assignment Directions

You are a health professional who performs community service by visiting local high schools to discuss the effects of long-term sleep deprivation on health and performance. High school students are at the naïve, "invincible age" where they do not believe anything will affect them negatively.

Create an 8-10 slide PowerPoint or Prezi presentation for your discussion. Include a discussion of the following in your presentation:
1. The biological functions of sleep
2. The neurosystems that underlie sleep
3. Sleep deprivation
4. Compensation for sleep with caffeine or other substances
5. Weight gain with lack of sleep
6. How long term sleep deprivation, affect mood

Support your discussion with evidence provided by at least three credible and academically appropriate references.
