Question 1.

The initial sensory effect that I noticed in the "Slaws Dogs and Pepperoni Rolls", was vision. It was because in the second paragraph Edward Lee describes what he sees in the Land he just arrived. "verdant hills carved out of prehistoric violence have had an eternity to become smooth" (Edward Lee, The Norton Sampler). This line was with the purpose to give the reader, like myself, a clear image, almost as if I could see what Lee envisioned when writing this description. "They roll and undulate like fairy-tale landscapes. The homes sit far apart, isolated. A church stands alone on a hill." According to Edward Lee, The Norton Sampler. To finish the vision he describes details of the land that paint the picture in my head and makes it vividly in a sense that I felt like I was on that van instead of him. I could see in my head the Church alone on the top of the hill surrounded by green. All the houses further in the bottom are spaced from each other on the hill. Edward Lee's way of bringing into life this beautiful land is effective because of the details and metaphors he used to describe.

Question 2.

My favourite plate is a Churrasco with rice and beans from this restaurant in Puerto Rico called Churrasco Factory. My grandma makes me the same plate at home, since I can't take flight very often just to eat, sadly. My grandma season her Churrasco with her regular condiments she uses. She leaves the meat seasoning overnight so it can soak in the flavour. She then passes it over to my Grandpa where he cooks it on the grill while she makes the rice and beans. Churrasco Factory meat is more chewy then hers but is packed with flavour from condiments from Chile. Since the owners are originally from Chile. They put on top a sauce that sinks into the Churrasco and add in that extra magic touch. My grandma only adds a butter sauce with garlic and it adds a light touch to the meat. While I love my grandma Churrasco, my mouth just waters thinking about my favourite plate.
