A large manufacturer of snacks and beverages, with manufacturing plants in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban, needs to submit their Skills Development Plan for 2022 to the Food and Beverages SETA for approval. The due date for approval is 31 October 2021. 75% of employees are based in the factories and warehouses, and work day- and nightshifts. 20% of employees are administrative and support staff and work virtually since the commencement of the COVID-19 lockdown period. The other 5% of employees are distributed in sales offices across in Sub-Saharan Africa.

You have been tasked to conduct a learning and development (L&D) needs analysis. Advice the Human Resources Director on the practical considerations that you would take into mind when deciding on which data collection method(s) to use when conducting the L&D needs analysis. In your answer, briefly describe each consideration, and recommend the most appropriate data collection method that you would use for each subgroup within the organisation (as mentioned in the case study) during the L&D needs analysis.

The different methods to choose and apply to the case study is questionnaires, observation, individual interviews, skill and knowledge tests, personal development plans, performance appraisal data, critical incidents and the organisations human resource and workplace skills plans.
