I work in the healthcare industry, at a skilled nursing facility. Our facility is very patient census driven meaning we would have to cut employee's hours if we do not have enough patients to care for. Some patients require more assistance than others. When our census is low and we are required to send nurses and CNAs home, upper management/corporate fails to understand that some patients require more assistance than others, and staff are unable to fully complete their jobs. Corporate fails to look at the acuity of the patients. This is a business system that does not make sense to me because our staff works hard to complete their job and it's a tough job when providing patient care for them. And if patient care does not happen or inadequately happens, patients will file complaints and give us negative reviews which affect our star rating. I think a better solution to this business process/practice is to consider the acuity of each patient before admitting them to the facility to ensure that the facility can adequately meet their care needs.
