New Process, Inc., a large mail-order supplier of women's fashions, advertises same-day service on every order. Currently the movement of orders hasn't gone as planned, and there were large number of complaints. Bud Owens, director of customer service, has completely redone method of order handling. Goal is to have fewer than five unfilled orders on hand at end of 95 percent of working days. Frequent checks of unfilled orders at end of day reveal that distribution of unfilled orders follows Poisson distribution with mean of two orders.
