Situational Analysis: Essay

Scenario:

1.) The assistant of the company CEO failed to inform the latter about the Executive meeting for the day at 9:00 AM. The expected attendees are the top management team and the entire Board of Directors. This failure to communicate resulted to the cancellation of the said meeting. The agenda of the meeting was to decide on the fate of the organization. The company is facing a very stiff competition. Initial talks revealed that major changes must be considered for future interest. The failure to conduct the meeting triggered suspicions and anxiety among the investors. The following days, the company observed that several withdrawal of huge investments were draining the strength of corporate assets. One serious potential consequence will be the massive retrenchment of regular and contractual employees. Employees are already anxious and nervous about the possible loss of employment. A department head whispered to some employees that a major cost-cutting scheme will be implemented soon to avoid huge losses in the operations. Supervisors start bloating their budget request to provide buffer cushion in case the new budget scheme will be implemented. One employee approached his/her immediate supervisor to convey his/her concerns but the supervisor just made a lot of excuses and left him/her dumbfounded. The supervisor said Ï just work here". Many employees are observed to start showing unusual behavior at work. Incidence of tardiness and absenteeism are significantly increasing everyday. Work outputs demonstrated below standard compliance and more products and services delivered were either damaged, defective, and delayed resulting to customer frustration and disgust. Loyal customers brought the concerns in various social media platforms to ventilate their anger. The reputation of the company is totally tarnished if not severely demolished. In fact one customer visited the main office to report the matter but the employees did not bother to entertain her complaints. She was informed to come back the next day. The following day, the same incident happened. The customer left the company premises empty handed. She felt humiliated and devastated. Such inappropriate treatment was traumatic causing her to feel as if she is the guilty party. Several high performing employees submitted courtesy resignation in anticipation of the possible bankruptcy. These employees are excellent team leaders in various positions. Employees are already manifesting unruly behavior. They tend to be irritable at the slightest mistakes and sometimes would leave their post causing paralysis in the operation. Infighting within the department is increasing in frequency more than enough to raise the alarm. Complaints for disciplinary procedures are flooding the HR office. The HR officer is also having a hard time in recruiting potential applicants to fill in vacant positions left by some managers, supervisors, and the rank-and-file. One successful applicant was hired but resigned after one week without formally tendering a resignation notice. The Union initiated several grievance complaints against supervisors for failure to observe due process in handling employee performance appraisal. The employees felt cheated upon knowing that their appraisal reports do not reflect their real performance outcomes. This situation is aggravated by the threat of Covid-19 infection because other employees are not following the health protocols imposed by the government and the company. The CEO approached you for advice. How will you handle the case?

2.) Ms. Lea Cruz is your subordinate in the department, She approached you and say " This Covid-19 pandemic is crashing my enthusiasm to work. The fear and anxiety of getting infected by the dreadful virus and its several mutations is too much to bear every time I report to work. Some of my workmates are hesitant to get vaccinated. Others strongly and persistently refused to get their vaccines. I do not see any serious effort on the part of the company to strictly implement the standard health protocols required by the IATF. The memo of the General Manager fell on deaf ears around here. We had heated arguments in the pantry during lunchtime last week because workers did not observe social distancing. I already wrote a letter to the HR officer about the incident but until now I am still waiting for the response. I was told by the HR staff that the letter will be brought to the attention of higher management. Patience is the key. The Finance officer is still seeking administrative approval that requires several authorized signatures for the release of our emergency allowance claiming that the situation is different now under the new normal. The skeletal workforce is not quite efficient and effective. I love my job. I always think of the customers who need our services. Resigning from my job at this crucial time is a hard decision. What will you advise to MGL?
