SIT306 - IT Placement Assignment, Trimester 2, 2019, Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment - Deakin University, Australia
Learning Outcomes - These are the Learning Outcomes (ULO) for this Unit:
1. Articulate placement aspirations and intended activities to potential employers highlighting key personal and professional capabilities and competencies.
2. Investigate opportunities for learning at a workplace and develop a learning contract that demonstrates awareness of specific roles and responsibilities to effectively participate in placement activities.
3. Demonstrate evidence of ethical, professional and efficient work practices, and outcomes achieved in order to meet the requirements of agreed work performance targets.
4. Reflect on placement experiences and show capacity for preparing personal and professional development plans.
Graduate Learning Outcomes -

Summative assessment task 1 - 'Me in a minute' transcript
Brief description of assessment task - "Me in a minute" is a strategy that promotes your acquired knowledge and capabilities through a one-minute presentation. You will prepare an update to the "Me in a minute" transcript you prepared in STP010, demonstrating the skills and capabilities you have developed since completing STP010. The transcript must demonstrate a professional approach, indicating what your key strengths and competencies are to potential employers.
Detail of student output - You will edit your 'Me in a minute" transcript that you submitted in STP010, using MS WORD using track changes to show your updates. Your transcript should be 150 words (± 10%), which equates to approximately 1 minute when verbalised.
Summative assessment task 2 - Formal learning contract
Brief description of assessment task - This assessment task requires you to investigate opportunities for placement in an approved host organisation. You must study the nature of the organisation and align your aspirations for work experience in line with the organisation goals and projects. You must identify activities and experiences that you will engage in during the placement in a learning contract, stipulating the outcomes you intend to achieve through your work. You will be required to attach supporting evidence from research conducted, people interviewed or consulted and materials prepared in the process of identifying work tasks in a host organisation.
Detail of student output - A clear statement of sufficiently challenging goals, targeted outcomes for achievement, and strategies for collection of evidence of achievement from intended placement activities. The learning contract should not exceed 2000 words. Your submission must also include a rationale for undertaking the work in a host organisation in a formal cover letter to the manager/supervisor, and the CV you submitted when applying for the placement (the letter and CV are not included in the word count).
Summative assessment task 3 - Performance evaluation
Brief description of assessment task - This assessment task requires you to engage in a performance discussion with your internship supervisor. The supervisor will evaluate your performance against the outcomes identified in your learning contract. You will prepare and provide a self- assessment against the goals and outcomes identified and reflect on your performance prior to evaluation by the supervisor.
Detail of student output - You will self-assess your internship performance and prepare a reflective report of no longer than 1500 words with a detailed account of your accomplishments for supervisor evaluation. The self-assessment report should include evidence of accomplishments against set goals and outcomes identified in the learning contract along with a self-rating on the quality, integrity and timeliness of the work undertaken. This report should be given to your supervisor before your performance review meeting.
Summative assessment task 4 - Professional portfolio
Brief description of assessment task - This assessment task requires you to carefully select artefacts that represent your progress and accomplishments in learning to practice as an IT professional.
You must use the professional portfolio as a learning tool to reflect on your personal and professional growth during your involvement in placement activities and your progress to achieving your goals identified in your learning contract and as a driver for updating your CV. The portfolio must be developed over time and should include information about ideas, work samples, approaches and strategies that you encountered during your placement. You must connect these with your emerging practice and communicate accomplishments with a view to persuasively argue your development. The portfolio should be future focused. You should reflect beyond this unit and use the portfolio as a tool for your future career.
Detail of student output - You should prepare a comprehensive portfolio presented in an electronic, interactive format and as agreed with the unit chair. This is an opportunity for you to be creative. It should be prepared, such that you can refer to the portfolio during an application or interview process for a potential job. Your output will be the culmination of evidence from individual and collaborative work, reflection on your learning and development, and impact on your future career. You will also update your CV with an accomplishment statement to reflect your newly acquired skills and capabilities.
Formative assessment - Mid-placement performance review
Brief description of assessment task - This is a required assessment which will guide your activities and learning through the second part of your placement and contribute to the evidence of achievement of your learning objectives in assignment 4 - Portfolio.
This will
- guide your activities in the remainder of your placement
- inform your approach to your final performance review
- provide evidence of changes in performance through the latter part of your placement.
The teaching team are not in a position to provide feedback as they are not supervising your placement activities.
