Sales Ethics:
1. You find that you have significantly overcharged one of your clients. The error was discovered when you received his cheque. It is unlikely that the customer or your company will become aware of the overcharge. Because of this error, the company realized a high net profit on the sale. Your commissions are based on this profit. What if anything, will you do about the overcharge?
2. Just before making a sales call, your sales manager tells you "Ray over at Northside Liquor has been buying Rio Grande Beer from us, but we want him to buy all our products. So tell him he only gets Rio Grande if he agrees to buy our malt liquor and our premium brands of beer too?" What do you say to the customer?
3. You are in sales training with a company. The vice-president of sales calls you in and says, "Here's your price book. It's for our regular customers. Of course, we have some special customers who get 5 % off any price in the book, so be careful about what prices you quote." Is this ethical? Is it legal? Why?
4. At your first sales meeting another salesperson tells you, "Your expense report is worth at least another $75.00 a week. See me later, and I'll tell you how." What would you say? What would you do when it comes time to fill out the report?
5. If bribes are a common way of doing business in an industry what is an individual salesperson to do?
