University admission officers believe that scores on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) are strongly related to academic performance. In other words, high school students who have higher SAT scores will have higher grade point averages in college. For years, officers have been using SAT scores to place college students in certain classes their freshmen year. Now the Admission Director wants to know if this policy is effective. You random sample 200 college sophomores and compare their SAT scores to their grade point average for their freshmen year. You calculate a Pearson's r for correlations and receive a value of .354 between the two variables. You also calculate the significance of your findings (using a computer) and receive a significance value of .015.

In a paragraph based on the results from the correlation, what will you tell the Admission Director? Are these two variables related? Should this policy be continued? Be certain to mention the direction of the relationship, the strength of the relationship, and whether our findings are statistically significant.
