Elder Mistreatment Written Assignment Case Study Mollie S., an elderly woman, 94 years old, was brought to the emergency department by ambulance with a chief complaint of right hip pain and confusion. She was found at home lying on the floor in urine by a home health aide. Her past medical history was significant for hypertension and diabetes. She is under the care of a primary care physician and is known to an area home care agency. Mollie was just discharged from the hospital 2 weeks ago - she was hospitalized because of dehydration. On arrival to the emergency department, this woman was not oriented to person, time and place, and kept on responding "I don't know" to the questions asked of her. The nurse in the ED completed the physical assessment. Physical Examination Findings BP 198/100 Pulse 78 Resp 22 Temp 99 F Weight 100 lbs (weight loss of 10 lbs since last hospitalization) Incontinent of foul smelling, dark urine, diffuse red abrasions noted in sacral and genital areas. Clothes had urine stains, and food stains. Hair was unkempt. Ecchymoses over the right periorbital area and the right maxilla - swelling noted, red in color, warm to palpation Tender.
