The ITDS on a team is providing services for Jasper, a 25 month old, who has Cerebral Palsy with significant cognitive delays and visual impairments. Jasper is in a wheel chair and has had two surgeries to date - one to correct a scoliosis and one to correct a contracture of his leg. In setting new goals, Dad says his only priority is for his son to walk. What would be the most appropriate way to address Dad's priority? In collaboration with the Physical Therapist on the team, help Dad break down the goal to short term accomplishments leading to sitting independently and then standing. Explain to Dad that this is an unrealistic goal and it is better to find activities that the family can enjoy together such as eating and playing board games.
