Question: Servant leadership is a leadership approach that emphasizes the leader's service to their followers, rather than their followers' service to the leader. It is similar to the democratic style of leader which includes, allowing the group to participate in decisions and provides motivation by supporting staff achievements (Holman, Williams, Johnson, et al. 2019). This form of leadership works on developing the community surrounding the team and the organization (Servant Leadership, 2021). The leaders main role is to serve their team and empower them to their best, instead of controlling them (Canavesi, & Minelli, 2021). As seen in this weeks video, Sara was very flustered trying to be of service to all of her employees. Sometimes servant leadership can lead to difficulty in discussion making, dependency and be very time consuming (Canavesi, & Minelli, 2021).When Sara pretended like nothing is wrong, she appears very gauged and agitated which I believe causes a barrier between her and her staff. It also shows that she may not trust them enough to help her with the large number of task (Week 5 Saving Sara, Episode 5 n.d.).
Sara opening up to her team when she was flustered, shows that they can support and trust each other because everyone needs a break and has bad days. The servant leader characteristics that Sara presents is awareness because she is aware hoe her actions impact her team. She also presented with commitment pt the growth of her team. She wants her team to be involved in the policy changes (Week 5 Saving Sara, Episode 5 n.d.).
