Part I: Read case study two on p. 184 (Mary the social work student). Fully discuss your answers to the questions below. Again, be sure to clearly identify which questions you are answering so that you can get credit. Do not assume I can pick out your responses to each.
A. Should Mary be concerned with privacy issues and the potential consequences of her social networking?
B. Do you feel Mary's searching one of her clients on Facebook was ethical or unethical? Why?
C. Do you feel employers or potential employers should have the right to review an employee's social media presence?
D. If a potential employer found discriminatory or inflammatory posts related to gender, race, ethnic origin, or sexual orientation, do you feel it would be appropriate for the firm to not hire the candidate based on their social media posts?
Part II: Read the article "The Demand for Diversity in Social Media Marketing" (link is in this module folder). Be sure to watch the video embedded in the article on Marks & Spencer's Nothing Neutral About It campaign. Fully discuss your answers to the questions below. Again, be sure to clearly identify which questions you are answering so that you can get credit.
A. Most of us have seen ads from the around the 1930's to 1950's era that displayed sexist, racist, and other attitudes. In today's marketing, do you feel that people are stereotyped in marketing materials? Discuss why you feel that way. Provide examples of what you mean.
B. Do you feel today's marketing materials show a diversity of people? Why or why not? (Think of how broad the term "diversity" covers)
C. Does it make a difference in how you feel about a company or product if you can see someone you can identify with in the ad? Why or why not?
