According to The Insider T-Mobile had to pay out $500 million dollars over their data breach in 2021 which impacted 76 million customers. This isn't the first time T-Mobile has been in the spotlight with hackers. For the past 2 years it is their third major leak. They are constantly being bombarded by class action lawsuits because they're failing to protect the data of their customers. Identity theft is a problem. Many people are losing their livelihood because of these hacks. It can ruin someone's reputation and their finances.
There was a hacker who took credit for the data breach. He says he just wanted to get attention and to generate noise. They're not sure whether he sold the information to other in the black market.
I feel these data breaches starting to become problem and they are increasing. Companies need to beef up their security and make sure their employees are properly trained. These attacks not only destroy people's lives but also the reputation of the company itself.
My question is do you feel your data is secure in these companies? Do you feel there should be a bigger legal consequence if companies do not protect customers information? Should there be a standard on how to protect customers information and what are the legal procedures on how to do it?
