Emily Miller has been employed in retail for about one year with no other experience, and she is currently enrolled part-time in school working toward her B.A. in history. Should she be given further consideration? Why or why not? You are finalizing the details for your upcoming campus visit to interview potential summer interns. You plan to interview eight students, and you have already selected seven to speak with. You need to fill the final slot, and you are considering two individuals-Joe Espinosa and Susan Clark. Both have decent work experience. They differ, though, with respect to GPA and extracurricular activities. Joe's GPA is 3.82, but he has not listed any extracurricular involvement. Susan has been involved in numerous campus groups, but her GPA is only 2.30. Whom would you interview and why? Susan Alexander is in the running for an assistant general manager. Susan performed well in her interview and received glowing references. Susan scored extremely high on conscientiousness, but slightly below your target score on general mental ability. Should she be ruled out? Why or why not? You are hiring a sales manager. Your finalist, Bradley Hancock, has an excellent track record. You noticed a few things throughout the selection process, though. Bradley was dressed for a "day at the beach," answered his cell during one interview, and ordered two drinks during lunch. Should this information be considered? Why or why not? As a final step in the selection process for new management trainees, you have a policy of viewing candidates' Facebook accounts. Aaron Cantor is one of your finalists. When viewing Aaron's Facebook page, you found several pictures where Aaron appeared clearly intoxicated. Should Aaron's pictures be held against him? Why or why not? You have just completed your reference check for Nolan Harris, your finalist for an administrative assistant to the GM. Nolan received two excellent references. However, one reference was lukewarm at best. Should Nolan be extended an offer? Why or why not?
