Discussion

1. In Nurse practitioner school, you have to choose a type of medicine you want to study before going into school which you focus on that specific specialty while in school. PA's just learn everything and then in the end choose whatever they want and can change specialties throughout their career. The main difference may be that PA uses the medical care model while NP uses the nursing care model. PA's are required to go and complete undergrad and take pre-reqs for the PA program which are similar to med school requirements. However, they do not need to take the MCAT for a PA program. NP's go through a different schooling and have to become an RN first. Followed by that would be applying to NP school. They both have to take national board exams and complete a certain amount of hours of clinical rotations. They provide the same care in similarity just depending on the specialty they are in. They are both mid level practitioners and their roles overlap completely. There are not many differences when it comes to care because they can diagnose, treat, and prescribe medications just with a different title.

2. Some of the shortages are job stress and feeling "burnt out". That is the most highlighted problem when I was researching. Admin might also affect the shortages in physicians and nurses because all they see is numbers and costs that affect providers' approach and affect patient outcome. Admin tend to focus on the non patient care. Another factor would be having the feeling of feeling "burnt out" which is at an all time high right now. For example, they have a feeling of not wanting to continue medicine due to the poor staffing ratios and have increased responsibilities.

3. Physician practice and specialization may vary on every provider. The unique part about the healthcare system is that advanced technology is always changing and integrating. There is always progression in the healthcare system to try and avoid certain diseases from recurring. Every provider makes it theirs, they mold the system to fit their own conceptions and make it comfortable to provide patient care. The healthcare system is very diverse and it is important to detail the advancements that are being projected that is what makes it unique.

4. Yes, because it decreases the quality of patient care. Every hour we spend with patients, we spend another 2 hours behind a computer doing charts, sometimes on awaiting electronic medical records. Only a quarter of the time is spent face to face with patients, and it is with no wonder why doctors and medical students experience symptoms of feeling burnt out. It is important to let them know that they are not alone, it is important to document everything, this allows patient safety and quality of care. There is a lot of responsibility that a provider has to go through when face to face with a patient because we want them to have a very good experience when they are in the clinic.
