You will have three response papers due over the course of the term. These papers should be concise, perceptive analyses of a particular text. You can choose any work we read in the period leading up to the due date of each response paper. The response paper must meet the following requirements:
--Be typed, double-spaced, and stapled
--Be three-four paragraphs, approximately 2 pages (but you can go over the page limit, if need be).
--Be focused. You should analyze a short passage or brief exchange between characters, or even a particular theme (instead of the work as a whole).
--Be literary analyses, instead of summaries or evaluations. In other words, you should not simply outline the plot, with which we should all be familiar. You also should not explain why you enjoyed or did not enjoy the work.
--Your paper should have a clear argument and support from the play to prove this argument. However, you cannot simply paraphrase episodes from the text to use as evidence. You must use direct quotations and cite them parenthetically within your paper in correct format.
--Follow the MLA format and include a Works Cited page (which will include only the entry for the work you are analyzing).
