Case: For each situation you will simulate a short assertive and non-assertive approach to handling the situation. For example, you will first make an assertive approach to receiving the wrong food order, then you will make a response to the same situation, but in a non-assertive way. For each situation you will pretend as if the situation were actually occurring. There are four situations; however, you will only be choosing two situations. In presenting an assertive and non-assertive approach to each situation, you will be recording four total approaches (but all in one recording, with just a pause in between each). The four situations to choose from are as follows:
1. You have ordered a medium-well steak and the server brings it medium-rare
2. You have received a C on a paper but think your grade should be higher, and you go to talk to your instructor.
3. You are trying to back out of your driveway, but your neighbor has parked his or her car too close to your driveway. You need to ask your neighbor to move his or her car.
4. You are eating lunch and someone is smoking right next to you, in a non-smoking area.
Each hypothetical situation will demonstrate the differences you decide to make to either convey an assertive or non-assertive message.
