In the notes that Tammy reviewed prior to the appointment: Ms. Hernandez is a 77-year-old; widow; who lives alone. She provides all of her daily self-care. She enjoys cooking and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. She is proud to be teaching her teenage granddaughter the tradition of cooking Latin dishes. Today she bought in a basket of homemade empanadas for the staff. In general, her only health concern is her high blood sugar, which is managed well by daily oral medication. Her appointment today with Tammy is to discuss management of her diabetes. Tammy walks into the room to begin the appointment: "Hello, I am Tammy your nurse educator. I am here to discuss your eating habits and things that you should do to better manage your condition. I see that you bought empanadas for the staff. Thank you very much but you know that those are not good for you. You should not be eating fatty foods. You should be eating fresh fruits and vegetables and minimal meat.
