Assignment: Child Development

I. Review the Accent section found on page 318 of our text "An Epidemic of Autism? What do you think? Is it true that there is an epidemic of Autism or are other factors at work? Support your position with research that you have found. There is not a single correct answer to this question so use your research and your thoughts to answer this question.

What do you think that the statement "If you have seen one child with Autism, all that you have seen is one child with Autism" means?

II. Whether you will teach online or face-to-face, this week's readings should have elements that are applicable to any context. Remember that online aspects pertain to any computer work you have adults do in your face-to-face classroom, in campus computer labs, or on their own electronic devices.

Draw from the readings/literature as you post and think about the following:

1. best practices;
2. promoting discourse/discussion---student-to-student discussion, professor-to-student discussion, etc.;
3. the needs of adult learners; and
4. creating active (not passive) learning experiences.

III. Family policy can be a very controversial and passionate topic given the various issues plaguing families today. We will dive into some great discussion and explore many sides of these issues

IV. Have you ever been affiliated with a union? In your opinion, how relevant are unions in America today bearing in mind the comprehensive array of employment laws that have been enacted at the federal, state, and local levels over the last 75 years? Are unions equally fair to employees, employers, and taxpayers? Should they be? What are the ramifications for the HRM function regarding unions in the workplace?
V. what it's like having a career in sports. Please see the links below to a series of three articles from SportsBusiness Journal. Though the sources may be from 2008, they are still extremely relevant today. Ironically, very few students follow the strategies identified in the articles. Those that do, set themselves apart from their competition and have a distinct advantage in the hiring process.

After reviewing the articles, please share your thoughts with the class. Based on what you read, is working in sports what you thought it would be? After reading the articles, are you more or less interested in a career in sports? Finally, if you are still interested in a career in sports, please list and describe a few things about you that would set you apart from other candidates.

VI. As an entrepreneur, what sort of goals do you see for your venture from using social media as opposed to former traditional means of marketing? How effective is social media for branding? How does social media information affect ethics? What are the legal implications?

VII. Share something you learned about yourself from this week's Personal Grief and Loss Inventory assignment that you will consider in your future work as a child life specialist. Please include both parts of your response in the same post.
