The shaft of a rolling machine is driven by means of a motor placed horizontally. The flywheel which also acts as a pulley is of 1.5 m diameter and has belt tension 5.4 kn and 1.8 kn on tight and slack side respectively. The weight of the flywheel is 20 kn. Determine the shaft diameter if the maximum allowable shear strength is 50 n/m^2 . The overhang of the flywheel is 250mm. The shaft is to operate with medium shock load condition and the values for shock and factors Cm = 2.0 and Ct = 1.5
