The military's preliminary findings are that rapid treatment at the time of the trauma is more efficient than waiting for symptoms to worsen before treating. Approximately 95% of rape victims experience PTSD within the first two weeks after an attack; 50% still have symptoms three months later, and 25% have them 4-5 years later. Victims of natural disasters can also have long-lasting PTSD.
