There are several theories of motivation, including Individual Differences, Equity Theory and Reinforcement Theory, and theories advanced by Mazlow, Herzberg and MacGregor, among others.

C SCENARIO:

Your department is made up of people who are very different from each other. One woman, Maya is a 28-year-old single parent who is working for minimum wage and having serious problems paying for her rent and food each week. Another staff member, Andrea, is in her mid-50s and is quite wealthy. She could retire, but continues to work because she finds her job personally fulfilling - in other words, it allows her to achieve her full potential. You have decided to apply Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs to identify how to best motivate each of these employees.
