"Borrowing" another patient's medication until it can be replaced by a stat order has several ethical and moral implications. Firstly, it violates the principle of autonomy, as the patient whose medication is being borrowed may not have given their consent. Secondly, it breaches the principle of beneficence, as it may harm the patient who is deprived of their medication. Thirdly, it infringes on the principle of justice, as it is not fair to take medication from one patient to give to another. Lastly, it undermines trust in the healthcare system, as patients expect their medication to be managed responsibly. It also raises legal issues, as it is against the law to administer medication prescribed to one patient to another patient.
