The Seven Levers to Ignite Change describe things that social innovators can do to help them maximize the change their initiatives can generate.
Each of the following hypothetical situations highlight an individual or organization applying one of these seven levers. For each hypothetical situation below, identify which of the seven levers is being applied and brieflyexplain how it is being applied.
a) Canadians Against Housing Insecurity, an organization working to end homelessness in Canada, has established chapters throughout the country. For example, the Toronto chapter is called Torontonians Against Housing Insecurity. It uses financial support from the national organization and applies this money to programs deemed important by those who have long been fighting homelessness in Toronto.
b) The leader of a social enterprise that works with at-risk youth focuses a lot of their time and effort motivating the young people they work with to set ambitious goals for their future.
c) The mayor of a large city set up a task force to produce solutions to the area's chronic public housing issues. Among the individuals they put on this task force were three prominent housing advocates who have been vocal critics of the mayor's previous efforts to deal with this issue.
d) A large international aid organization helps fight global poverty, in part, by supporting smaller organizations that are focused on fighting poverty in specific countries. This large organization has decided to make this financial support contingent on the smaller organizations meeting specific performance targets.
e) A community organizer uses social media to provide citizens with information on upcoming Town Hall meetings. She lets people know if any topics are being covered that are of particular importance to community members, how they can travel to the meeting location and how they can voice their opinion at the meeting. She also helps arrange carpooling to the meeting.
