Most dermatologists recommend using sunscreen that has an SPF of at least 30. The owner of a store that sells outdoor gear wondered if her customers prefer sunscreen with a higher SPF. To that end she asked a random sample of 48 of her customers what SPF they use. The distribution of SPFs of customers in her sample was not too skewed with an average of 35.29 and a standard deviation of 17.19.

a) Set up the null and alternative hypotheses of the test (in words and numbers).

b) The owner calculated the standardized statistic as 35.29 - 30 17.19/√48 = 2.13 Is this statistic the value of z or of t?

c) In light of your answer to b) find the p-value. Show your work and include a screen shot of the applet output if you use an applet.

d) What do you conclude? Does the evidence suggest that customers of her store prefer sunscreen with a higher SPF than that recommended by most dermatologists?
