Event planning isn't like an art it is an art. Just like the article says "you have those who have vision but no skill to implement it, people who constantly talk about their "work in progress", and people who possess highly honed skilled but no vision." Managers are very similar to this, you can have managers that possess great skills but have no drive or managers that have drive but no skills. Finding the proper balance of both is a true artform, making sure we are organized and strong to lead while also helping our team or employees stay organized and strong. Just like musical instruments there are strengths and weaknesses but only a true craftsman knows its limitations and how to work with it without it resisting. We are taught how to organize and lead but only true artist (managers) know each team members strengths and weaknesses and uses it to their advantage. Some of the best managers can look at a problem and see the chink in the armor while some can create harmony by working it out. Event planners are especially similar to artist because of our thoughts and visions, we think of an event we want to plan and we begin to model that event one piece at a time. Creating floor plans that are both easy to navigate yet exciting is an art form, as well as meeting their own standards of excellence. Events are pieces of clay waiting to be modeled and formed into an amazing experience, sometimes this also relates to growing your business successfully. Very few artist start with a half-finished piece of art then claim it as all their own, this is the same with businesses, we dance and design our way to success by making a name for ourselves.

I am a firm believer that there is Art in anything and everything we do, whether its something mundane like everyday living or working professionally, Art is everywhere. I do think that some professions allow for more creativity than others and our profession, in event management is truly one where we have to some degree, creative freedom; therefore, the first artistic ability that we share with artist is creativity, there are so many types of events whether its exhibits, conventions or regular meetings it is the job of an event manager to make each one completely different, unique and fun for attendees and that requires an individual who is constantly creative and looking for new ideas. There are several skills that artist use that we also use almost everyday; One for example is talent, being an artist definitely requires some sort of talent and the same goes for us in event management, not everyone can paint or draw just like not everyone can coordinate an event. Another artistic skill needed for event management is confidence or self belief; in such a stressful industry we need to have a certain amount of self-confidence because the stress may reach you and when you start getting flustered no one might take you seriously or take advantage of that. There is also the most prominent skills that we share like attention to detail and out of the box thinking. Finally, there are some artistic abilities that are shared through all types of employment for example, good communication skills, ability to set and meet deadlines and organizational skills.
