After reviewing and reflecting on Mrs. R's case study, the intervention that I would recommend for the family caregiver would be The Senior Companion Program Plus. Mrs. R is an 84 year old African American widow. The Senior Companion Program Plus is designed for African-American dementia caregivers. They service companions and provide respite to family caregivers. There is no cost for a family caregiver. The senior companion wants to give back and be involved. They help with activities of daily living and socialization. The senior companions pass on their knowledge and training to the family caregiver, including; diagnosis and treatment, creating a safe environment for older adult, how to manage bathing and toileting, communicating with professionals/other family members, support services, coping skills for caregiver stress and burden, expectation, and helping caregivers find purpose/meaning (Fields, 14:27, 2020). Mrs. R wants to be kept in her home and respecting the dignity of the client is important but due to her decline in her physical condition and being unable to manage her own care, she is in need of assistance in performing ADL's and for her overall safety. Mrs. R. is unable to live on her own in her home. She demonstrated moderate.
