We are not sure of her self-diagnosis of pre-eclampsia. According to the American Heart Association (Malha and August, 2019) "Preeclampsia-eclampsia is a syndrome that manifests clinically as new-onset hypertension in later pregnancy (any time after 20 weeks, but usually closer to term), with associated proteinuria: 1+ on dipstick and, officially, ≥300 mg per 24-hour urine collection." Nancy's hypertension is not new and at two months of gestation, she is not yet in "late pregnancy". Other types of pregnancy related hypertension also occur in later pregnancy (Malha and August, 2019). I will still offer to do the urine test if she requests it but my focus would be referring her to a high-risk obstetric office due to her pre-existing hypertension and age.
