Question: Pick an American or Texan leader that either inspires you in a positive way or that you do react strongly against. Please state why you feel the way you do toward the person you chose. It MUST be a leader that is from before the 21st Century (the 1900's). This person does NOT have to have held a political office. Some great examples of a leader are: MLK Jr., JFK, Abe Lincoln, Sam Houston, LBJ, Geronimo, Chief Joseph, Jim Bowie, Malcolm X, Edison, FDR, Frederick Douglas, Cesar Chavez, Korematsu, Jimmy Carter, etc... But, you may have someone else in mind. There are many thousands of people possible for this assignment, one of which has caught your attention. I have been pleasantly surprised by some students who have brought people from the dark shadows up into the light of day for this particular discussion topic. Maybe you are linked to the person you chose by their history or family ties.
Provide a reason why they are a good leader and why they are an inspiration to you. I would imagine most would be positive inspirations, but it could be someone in history that you disagree with and it is a "I'll prove them wrong" type of inspiration. Please, 'dig deep', and some self-evaluation/self-awareness here as to why this person influences you.
