There are some people that favor one group of people over another due to similarities and differences in races, gender, beliefs, and so on. Everything is good in their perspective because they believe what they are doing is normal. Nepotism is an excellent example; nepotism is an act of favoritism towards friends or family members.

Let's suppose a McDonald's manager chooses his or her relative or friend above ten other candidates. From their point of view, they are being polite and helpful to their family and friends, but they are unaware that many others have been deprived of opportunities. Those same candidates may have been better choices as an employee, but we will never know because they were not given the opportunity.

Self-assessments and education may not be able to change this because it is part of our human nature. Networking is one of the core fundamental aspects of a business. Why? It's to establish a connection from which you'll later benefit. It's nepotism in disguise. However, do not feel discouraged to network, it's a valuable skill in any field.
