Question 1) Select one or more of the specific theories (i.e., liberal feminist theory, Marxist/socialist feminist theory, radical feminist theory, multiracial/multiethnic feminisms, masculinity theory, queer theory).
Question 2) Choose and view a movie, television show, or television series to critique using your selected theory. The media does not need to explicitly talk about the theory, but you should be able to point to examples of what the selected media gets right and wrong about its characters based on what you learned from the theory.
Question 3) have a 2 - 5 page paper that critiques your selected movie or show based on what you learned about the theory. This should include:
- An informative title
- An introduction: Tell me the show or movie you are critiquing, the theory you are based your critique on, and describe the central tenets of the theory you are using.
- Briefly summarize the plot of the movie or show and introduce any main characters.
- Analyze the show or movie in light of your selected theory. Questions to think about: How are women or people of color or LGBTQ individuals depicted in the show? Are they depicted differently than men or white or straight characters? Are any gendered and/or racialized stereotypes present?
- A conclusion summarizing the arguments made in your paper
