Question: Bacteria counts were taken at the four Southern California beaches of Santa Monica, Malibu, Zuma, and Ventura. The researcher's idea was that the different beaches would yield significantly different bacteria counts. The Santa Monica beach count was 16.2, 12.0, 16.4, 15.5, 16.5, 22.0, and 23.0. The Malibu count was 18.3, 18.2, 18.3, 17.4, 18.4, 24.1, and 25.2. The Zuma count was 17.2, 17.3, 17.2, 16.4, 17.3, 23.0, and 24.3. The Ventura count was 20.2, 20.9, 21.1, 20.3, 20.2, 26.1, and 28.4. Check the distributions for normality-just by looking, you would suspect that they don't approximate the normal curve. Select the correct testing approach based on your normality findings, and write the null and alternative hypotheses. If you find significant differences in the bacteria counts at the four beaches, do additional work to identify the specific beaches that contribute to the overall finding.
