5 Rule Assignment

Peter Gerhardt speaks of the importance of a "5 Year Rule." In other words, if we expect a person with ASD to use a skill, it needs to be taught 5 years before expected use.

(1) If you had to choose 5 skills critical to successful adulthood, which need to be addressed early and often, what would they be? Why these?
(2) How could teachers introduce these in early childhood, elementary school, middle school, and high school?
(3) Are there reasons these skills may not be attended to as much as they should?
Justify your answer with specific examples.
(4) What would you do as a teacher to advocate for focus on these skills with other educational professionals, school administrators, and families?
Reflect on reasons why it is critical to provide individualized and comprehensive sexuality education for people with ASD.

Chapter Preference Assessment

(1) Select a child or adult on the autism spectrum you know (Male or Female)
(2) Choose 2 methods of preference assessment (e.g., interviewing family members, observations, reinforcer sampling), and
(3) write a 2-3-page reflection paper.

This reflection paper has a rubric. English must be clear, well constucted and organized.

There must be in-text citations and credible sources use APA style.
